Syrian Opposition Fighters Reach Damascus Suburbs Amid Heightened Tensions
Syrian opposition fighters have entered the suburbs of Damascus for the first time since government forces reclaimed the area in 2018, according to activists. The Syrian army has reportedly withdrawn from much of southern Syria but is fortifying positions around the capital. In response to the unstable security situation, Lebanon has closed all land border crossings with Syria except for one, while Jordan has shut down a border crossing as well. Meanwhile, Palestinian officials report casualties from Israeli strikes in northern Gaza.
