Thessaloniki’s Future Urban Planning: Reducing Car Traffic for Smart City Development

At the Thessaloniki Future Thinking Dialogues 2024, Paris Mpilias, the Deputy Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, advocated for the removal of cars from city centers to enhance urban resilience. He outlined plans for a new flyover to improve traffic flow, coinciding with the upcoming metro launch. Dana Eleftheriadou from the European Commission emphasized the role of digital technologies in creating smart cities, while Lina Liakou highlighted the growing need for urban resilience amid increasing natural disasters. The event was organized by the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce and the Central Macedonia Region.
