Thousands Protest in Georgia Amid Political Crisis Over EU Aspirations
Thousands of pro-European demonstrators gathered in Tbilisi to protest against Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s government, which they accuse of stalling Georgia’s EU ambitions. Following the October 26 elections won by the ruling Georgian Dream party, tensions escalated as the government suspended EU accession talks until 2028. Demonstrations have continued for nine nights, despite clashes with security forces. Ministers from France, Germany, and Poland condemned the government’s use of violence against peaceful protesters and called for respect of fundamental rights and dialogue with political factions.
