Trafigura Faces Corruption Charges in Swiss Court for Angola Bribery Case

Trafigura, the Geneva-based commodity trading giant, is set to stand trial in Switzerland for corruption related to bribery of an Angolan official between 2009 and 2011. The company allegedly paid nearly five million Swiss francs through intermediaries to secure oil contracts in Angola. The trial, beginning on December 2, will also scrutinize former CEO Michael Wainwright and other accused individuals. This case marks a significant moment in Swiss corporate accountability, as it’s the first time a major trading firm faces such charges in a federal court.
