Tragic Bus Accident Claims 11 Lives in Peru’s Andes

A bus accident in the Peruvian Andes near the Bolivian border resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, with one child surviving. The incident occurred overnight as the vehicle was traveling from Juliaca to Sandia, carrying over a dozen passengers. Among the deceased are three teachers and the driver. Traffic accidents are common in Peru due to excessive speed, poor road conditions, and inadequate signaling. In 2023, road fatalities reached 3,316 across more than 87,000 accidents, although the mortality rate has improved from 14 to 9.5 deaths per 100,000 citizens since 2019.
