Tragic Shipwreck Claims 25 Lives Near Comoros Islands

A tragic incident off the coast of the Comoros islands has resulted in the drowning of 25 migrants after their boat capsized. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that the boat, allegedly scuttled by human traffickers, was carrying 30 individuals, including women and children. Five survivors were rescued by fishermen the following day. This is the third boat disaster in the region within three months, highlighting the perilous journeys many undertake in search of a better life, with nearly half of the Comoros’ 900,000 population living in poverty.
