Turkey Dismisses Mayors Linked to Kurdish PKK Organization
Turkey’s Interior Ministry has dismissed mayors of two cities, Tunceli’s Cevdet Konak and Ovacik’s Mustafa Sarigul, citing ongoing trials related to terrorism and connections to the PKK, a Kurdish organization. Both mayors had recently been elected in the March 31, 2024 local elections. The ministry previously dismissed mayors from three other southeastern cities for similar reasons. The mayor of Esenyurt, Ahmet Ozer, was also arrested and dismissed under accusations of strong suspicions of criminal activity related to the PKK.
