Turkey Warns of Cross-Border Operation Against Kurdish Militia in Syria
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned of a potential cross-border operation into northeastern Syria targeting the Kurdish militia YPG unless it meets Turkey’s demands. He stated that the new Syrian leadership must address the issue. Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist organization linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Fidan also mentioned that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has ordered Turkish soldiers to take control of prisons and camps in northeastern Syria housing Islamic State members if the new Syrian administration fails to do so.
