Two Fishermen Sentenced for Illegally Selling Undersized Fish in Vlissingen

A court in Middelburg has sentenced two fishermen, aged 33 and 56, to community service and conditional prison terms for illegally selling undersized fish in Vlissingen’s fish auction. The arrests followed a police operation in April that involved 150 officers and surveillance of the fishermen through hidden cameras, uncovering significant illegal sales. The pair were found guilty of trafficking around four to six tons of undersized fish, which were sold without proper registration. The local fish shop owner who purchased the illegal catch has already faced penalties, including fines and a suspended prison sentence.
