UK Achieves Record Wind Power Generation in 2024
In 2024, wind energy generation in the UK reached a record nearly 83 terawatt-hours (TWh), marking a significant increase from 2023. The rise in renewable energy sources, particularly wind and solar, has coincided with a decrease in fossil fuel generation, which fell to just over 25% of total electricity. The government’s ‘Clean Power 2030 Action Plan’ aims to reduce fossil fuel contribution to less than 5% by 2030. Furthermore, the UK’s overall carbon emissions from electricity generation dropped markedly, showcasing a successful shift towards cleaner energy.
