UK Engages in Diplomatic Contact with Syrian Rebels Amid Humanitarian Aid Efforts

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has confirmed that the British government is in diplomatic contact with the Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), despite it being classified as a terrorist organization. This comes alongside a £50 million humanitarian aid package for vulnerable Syrians. Lammy emphasized the need for a representative government in Syria and highlighted the importance of maintaining contact under existing terrorism legislation. The U.S. is also engaging with HTS, particularly in relation to the fate of the missing American journalist Austin Tice.
