UK Prime Minister Announces Major Overhaul of Planning System to Address Housing Crisis

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to unveil significant reforms aimed at delivering 1.5 million homes over the next five years to tackle the housing deficit. The proposed changes prioritize the development of ‘brownfield’ sites and impose mandatory building targets on local authorities. Additionally, councils will receive £100 million to support these initiatives. However, there are concerns about workforce challenges that may hinder progress. Local authorities are given 12 weeks to devise plans, or ministers may step in.
