UK to Compensate LGBT Veterans Dismissed from Armed Forces
The UK government is set to announce compensation of up to £70,000 for LGBT veterans dismissed from military service due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Following extensive discussions with campaigners, the Ministry of Defence will open applications for payments starting at £50,000, with additional compensation for those profoundly impacted by historical bans. The total compensation fund has increased to £75 million, with payments exempt from income tax. This initiative aims to address injustices faced by LGBT veterans from 1967 to 2000.
