UK to Decommission Aging Military Equipment to Save £500 Million

The UK government plans to decommission several military ships, drones, and helicopters as part of a strategy to save £500 million over five years. Notable vessels such as HMS Albion, HMS Bulwark, and HMS Northumberland will be retired, with current operations costing millions annually. The move is aimed at reallocating funds to modernize the armed forces, meet a GDP defence spending target, and respond to evolving military needs. Defence Secretary John Healey assures that all personnel will be redeployed or retrained in light of these changes.
