Ukraine Seeks to End Gas Contract with Gazprom Amid Ongoing Conflict
Ukraine has announced it will not renew its gas contract with Gazprom, which is set to expire on December 31, after adhering to it despite the Russian invasion in 2022. The government aims to cut ties as it believes the Kremlin uses gas revenues to fund its military operations. Since the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine has not relied on Russian gas and has shifted to imports from Poland along with utilizing coal and nuclear energy.
