Ukrainian Soldiers Find Refuge at Mount Athos Monasteries in Greece

A group of 22 Ukrainian soldiers traveled over 1,000 kilometers from Lviv to Greece, seeking sanctuary at a rock-hewn monastery in the Athos mountain range. Participating in a psychological support program organized by Ukrainian authorities, they aimed to heal from the battlefield’s memories. Their stay included visits to ten monasteries, providing them relief and tranquility away from the war’s noise. Mount Athos has been a spiritual center for the Orthodox Church since Byzantine times and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988.
