The longstanding conflict between Serbia and Kosovo continues as Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, remains unrecognized by Serbia. Around 90% of Kosovo’s population is of Albanian descent, while about 50,000 ethnic Serbs in the north reject Kosovo’s government. Despite aspirations for European Union membership, Kosovo’s path is hindered by the lack of recognition from some EU member states.
