Unearthing Edinburgh’s Forgotten Street Behind National Library’s Hidden Door
A secret corridor, known as The Void, has been discovered behind a door in the National Library of Scotland, revealing remnants of the long-gone Libberton’s Wynd. Once a bustling street, it was demolished in the 1830s to make way for George IV Bridge. Items like furniture and ledgers dating over a century old were found, reflecting the rich history of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Although this historic passage is currently not open to the public, it offers insights into the area’s past, including connections to famous local taverns and significant figures like William Burke.
