UNICEF Warns: Drought Affects 420,000 Children in Amazon Basin
A severe drought in the Amazon basin is jeopardizing the well-being of over 420,000 children, according to UNICEF. The drought has drastically reduced water supplies and disrupted river transport, heavily impacting Indigenous communities in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. This crisis is leading to increased food insecurity and heightening the risk of child malnutrition and infectious diseases. More than 1,700 schools and 760 medical clinics in Brazil alone are inaccessible due to low river levels. UNICEF is urgently seeking $10 million to provide essential aid, including water and healthcare support to affected regions.
