Unique Viking Sword Pommel Discovered in Friesland
A medieval Viking sword pommel has been unearthed in Witmarsum, Friesland, making it a rare find in the Netherlands, according to the Fries Museum. The copper pommel, adorned with animal head designs, dates back to the 10th century. Discovered by Sander Visser using a metal detector, this piece is only the second of its kind ever found globally. Experts highlight its significance in linking the Frisian and Viking worlds and its potential for further archaeological exploration.
