Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has called for the establishment of a European Defense Mechanism to enhance the EU’s readiness for climate change-related emergencies. Speaking at the Chanalchome Forum, she emphasized the importance of both military and civilian cooperation at a European level. Von der Leyen announced that a new committee will be tasked with assessing necessary modifications across EU policies, focusing on resilience in critical supply chains and boosting the EU’s defense industrial capacity through enhanced cross-border collaboration and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
