US Army Veteran Inspired by ISIS Commits New Year’s Eve Truck Attack in New Orleans

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US Army veteran, was behind the deadly truck-ramming attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve, which killed 14 people. The FBI confirmed that Jabbar had voiced allegiance to the Islamic State in videos he posted online. Financial struggles and personal issues followed his military service, which included a deployment to Afghanistan. Despite his past accolades, including military awards and a successful career post-service, Jabbar’s radicalization led him to carry out the attack, which he initially planned to conduct against family and friends.
