US Defense Department Releases Guantanamo Bay Detainee to Kenya

The U.S. Department of Defense announced the release of Kenyan detainee Mohammed Abdul Malik Bajabu from Guantanamo Bay, reducing the number of remaining detainees to 29. Bajabu was repatriated to Kenya after a determination that his detention was no longer needed for national security. His 2007 capture was linked to allegations of his membership in an East African Al-Qaeda faction. Notably, among the remaining detainees is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks.
