US Government Withholds $3.6 Million Payment to WADA Due to Anti-Doping Concerns

The U.S. government has failed to pay the $3.6 million owed to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 2024, citing dissatisfaction with WADA’s handling of 23 unpunished doping cases involving China’s swimming team in 2021. The U.S. Drug czar, Rahul Gupta, supported this action, emphasizing the need for WADA to restore trust in the global anti-doping system. U.S. contributions represent 6% of WADA’s annual budget, and Gupta stressed the importance of accountability for U.S. taxpayer money.
