Utrecht Students Defy City Ban to Protest Education Cuts
Despite the Utrecht municipality’s request to avoid a demonstration, various student organizations have mobilized for a protest against significant education funding cuts. While the municipality expressed safety concerns and suggested cancelling the event due to fears of pro-Palestinian groups disrupting it, several groups, including socialists and local student unions, insist that the cuts warrant immediate protest action. Key demands include the reversal of a €1 billion higher education budget cut and the repeal of penalties for extended study. Concurrently, smaller protests are planned across several student cities.
