Vanuatu Launches Landmark Climate Case at International Court of Justice
Vanuatu has initiated what is being called the largest climate lawsuit in history at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The court will assess countries’ legal obligations to combat climate change. With nearly 100 countries set to testify, Vanuatu seeks to compel global action against climate change, emphasizing dire impacts on small island nations. Though the court’s advice will not be legally binding, it could pave the way for future climate litigation, aiming to hold polluting nations accountable for the damage inflicted on vulnerable countries.
