Venezuela Frees 225 Protesters Arrested After Disputed Election

Venezuelan authorities have released 225 individuals detained during anti-government protests following the contentious presidential election on July 28. Attorney General Tarek Saab announced the decision, citing new evidence. Local human rights group Foro Penal reported that more than 1,800 were arrested in the wake of the election, which led to the alleged continuation of President Nicolas Maduro’s rule despite accusations of election fraud. The protests resulted in significant violence, prompting criticism of the Maduro administration’s actions against dissent.
