Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has initiated a national security plan involving military and police forces as he is set to be sworn in on Friday. He launched the Comprehensive Defense Instruments (ODIs) to ensure peace and stability in response to upcoming opposition-led demonstrations. Maduro announced the capture of seven foreign mercenaries, including two Americans, alleging they aimed to carry out terrorist acts. The opposition claims their candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, won the recent elections, and is calling for mass mobilizations to disrupt Maduro’s inauguration.
