On November 22, 2024, the Mayor of Almyros, Dimitris Eseridis, hosted a visit from Bishop Timothy of Prahova, along with priests from local churches. They discussed Romania’s interest in the region’s religious tourism, particularly focusing on the Holy Monasteries of Upper and Lower Panagia Xenia, which attract numerous Romanian pilgrims. Future plans for exchange visits were also explored, considering a twinning initiative between Almyros and a municipality in Bucharest for the upcoming summer.
