Approximately 87,000 people were forced to evacuate an area in central Philippines following a volcanic eruption from Mount Kanlaon, which released ash and gas. Although there were no immediate casualties, the alert level was raised, indicating potential for further eruptions. Officials reported significant ashfall affecting visibility and health, leading to the cancellation of several domestic flights. Prompt evacuations were carried out in towns closest to the volcano, particularly in La Castellana where 47,000 residents were moved from a danger zone.
