Two men, Dilshad Shamo and Ali Khdir, were caught running a people smuggling operation in Wales, providing migrants from the Middle East with video reviews of their journeys, akin to Tripadvisor. Over two years, they brought approximately 100 migrants to Europe weekly, offering various service tiers at high prices. The National Crime Agency noted that their operation utilized the hawala banking system, making recovery of their profits unlikely. Investigators are now focusing on the larger smuggling networks exploiting this system in the UK and abroad.
