In France, a significant 40% of the elderly are hospitalized due to malnutrition, with half of hospitalized seniors affected by it. A new white paper titled ‘Nutrition for the Elderly: Essential Training Scenarios for Professionals and Caregivers’ has been presented to health authorities during National Malnutrition Week. This document, drafted by the ALIM50+ association after four years of research, emphasizes the need for better training for health professionals and caregivers to identify and address malnutrition signs, including loss of appetite and weight. Approximately two million elderly people in France are impacted by malnutrition.
