WHO Identifies Underlying Causes of Mysterious Deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The World Health Organization has determined that the unexplained wave of illnesses and deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo is attributed to malaria, respiratory infections, and widespread malnutrition. The outbreak led to at least 48 confirmed fatalities, with local authorities estimating over 130 deaths, mainly affecting children under five. Efforts are underway to enhance healthcare and responses in the impacted region, Panzi, where malnutrition rates have surged, exacerbating the impact of infectious diseases.
