In 2024, more Vietnamese migrants sought to cross the English Channel than any other nationality, driven by a desire for better economic opportunities despite Vietnam’s rapid economic growth. The article explores the paradox of high per capita income alongside significant disparities, limited job security, and the lure of success stories abroad. With a history of migration rooted in economic aspirations, many are compelled to risk their lives through smuggling routes in search of a better future. The challenges of criminal smuggling networks and the harsh realities of migration are also highlighted.
