Widespread Detection of Trifluoroacetic Acid in Swiss Groundwater Raises Concerns
The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment has detected Trifluoroacetic Acid (TFA), a non-degradable PFAS chemical, in all analyzed groundwater samples across Switzerland. TFA accumulates in groundwater and is often traced back to agricultural chemicals. The highest concentrations were found in the Mittelland region. While current levels do not show immediate health risks, experts warn of potential long-term effects and urge for TFA-free alternatives in pesticides and refrigerants.
