In an exciting development for winter sports enthusiasts, Winterswijk has successfully hosted its first natural ice skating event of the season, despite above-freezing temperatures. This milestone was achieved through innovative techniques by the Winterswijk Ice Association, which insulated the skating surface to form a thin layer of ice. Ice master Hendrik van Prooije explained that favorable weather conditions allowed for this early skating opportunity. Plans are underway to enhance the 400-meter rink, aiming to accommodate up to 300 skaters in the future, highlighting the community’s commitment to winter activities.
