Wisdom, the World’s Oldest Wild Bird, Lays Egg at Age 74

Wisdom, a Laysan albatross and the world’s oldest known wild bird, has laid an egg at approximately 74 years old. Initially tagged in 1956, she has outlived at least three mates and has raised more than 30 chicks throughout her lifetime. Biologists are optimistic about the egg’s hatching potential, reporting a 70-80% chance of success. Wisdom continues to attract global attention and awe as she participates in the breeding season at Midway Atoll, home to the largest albatross colony in the world.
