World’s Oldest Person Tomiko Itooka Dies at 116
Tomiko Itooka, recognized as the world’s oldest person by Guinness World Records, has died at the age of 116 in Ashiya, Japan. Born in May 1908, she lived through significant historical events and was honored with a certificate on Respect for the Aged Day in September 2024. Ms. Itooka leaves behind one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren. Her passing comes shortly after Spain’s Maria Branyas Morera died at age 117, making Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas the new titleholder at 116.
